As part of the Jean Monnet Module “Improving Knowledge for Climate Justice and Human Rights in Albania” (Climate4Justice), an open lecture entitled “Green Finance, Climate Justice and Women’s Economic Empowerment in Albania” was successfully held on 8 June 2026 at the Faculty of Economics.
The lecture brought together students of the Master of Science in Risk Management programme, providing them with an opportunity to explore the developments in green finance and gain a deeper understanding of the links between climate justice, sustainable development, and gender equality.
The guest lecturer, Ms. Alma Lulja, Deputy Regional Coordinator of the Western Balkans Green Economy Financing Facility (GEFF) at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), shared insights on the role of green financing mechanisms in supporting the transition towards a more sustainable and inclusive economy. Drawing on her professional experience, Ms. Lulja highlighted the importance of integrating a gender perspective into climate-related financial instruments and policies, emphasizing how women’s economic empowerment can contribute to more effective and equitable climate action.
The lecture generated active discussion among participants, who engaged with key topics related to sustainable finance, climate justice, and the challenges and opportunities associated with ensuring equal access to green financing initiatives. Students also had the opportunity to learn about regional and international experiences in promoting environmentally sustainable investments while addressing social and gender inequalities.
