Aim
This project aim at developing 2 Jean Monnet modules, at the Faculty of Economics (FE), University of Tirana (UT), respectively Disaster Risk Management (DRM) and Climate Change Adaptation (CCA). Both subjects will be developed under the context of EU integration. Teaching activities are the main output of the project. Their specific focus will be at including an EU angle to the existing subject “Disaster Risk Management” and new subject “Climate Change Adaptation” in order to foster issues related to EU Integration in the current content of these subjects.
The outcomes of this project will include several dissemination activities, and one research publication, where project results and Europeanization of studies within the University of Tirana will be promoted.
Specific objectives
The specific objectives of this project include:
- Support on the introduction of an EU angle into mainly non EU related studies
Improvement of knowledge, stronger evidence and more focus on innovation are essential to increase our understanding of climate change and disaster risk, to build resilience and risk-informed approaches to policy-making, and contribute to smart, sustainable and inclusive growth. EU agenda has posed a strong emphases of these issues and several criteria for dealing with CC and Disasters are requirements for achieving integration in the EU community. Through mainstreaming CC and DRM field in education process, this action is contributing to meeting these criteria, indirectly contributing to the process of EU integration.
- Encouragement of interest in the EU and constitution of the basis for future poles of European knowledge in Albania
Albanian population has experienced many impacts from climate change and numerous man-made and natural disasters such as flood, droughts and earthquakes. Specific CC and DRM projects and programs, supported by the EU, are being implemented in the country. Education is a very important field to invest and promote especially in relation to mitigation activities. In the WB Countries, CC and DRM education is not widely found and promoted. Albania, part of the WB, is strongly reliant of international support and assistance especially in education field. The transfer of know-how and support from EU Countries are especially valuable in order to develop education in line with EU standards.
The two Jean Monnet modules proposed in this project will be based in the good practices of EU study programs in the field of DRM and CCA. Relevant programs and contents have been reviewed and used for the purposes of developing the syllabi of both courses.
- Delivery of tailor-made courses on specific EU issues relevant for graduates in their professional life
In order to give the EU angle to the DRM and CCA modules, the EU integration criteria were thoroughly reviewed and relevant topics to include in the curricula were identified in this regard. They include strategies, policies, international agreements and governance system of EU for both CCA and DRM. This perspective was very well integrated with the other theoretical and practical issues included in the modules syllabi.
- Fosters the publication and dissemination of the results of academic research
Supporting activities of this project are particularly targeting dissemination and exploitation of project results during and beyond the life of the project.
