The Second Jean Monnet Module “Disaster Risk management in the framework of EU Integration” within the project “Promoting CCA and DRM in the framework of EU Integration” was completed successfully for the second semester of the 2022 academic year. The module offers students extensive knowledge in the field of Disaster Risk Management.
The subject was conceived in the form of a workshop where students were asked to continuously apply the theoretical knowledge, they received during the lectures in the various tasks provided by the course which were interconnected and in follow up of each other. Intensive independent work was performed by the students under the guidance and supervision of the lecturers.
During the semester within this module, the various phases of disaster management: prevention, preparedness, response and recovery in the framework of EU DRM policies were covered. A special attention was given to the risk assessment and vulnerability approaches for a number of specific environmental hazards in both EU and the Balkans.
Though group projects, students produced contingency plans for a school, a health center, a shopping center, a municipality. In addition, they organized a Government Emergency Simulation for the City of Tirana. The purpose of the simulation was to practice a timely, effective, and coordinated response to an emergency event. The module was applauded by students, who gave it a very good feedback.
